Oprah's Angel Network is Helping Tsunami Disaster Survivors
Our hopes and prayers are with the millions of families touched by this terrible tragedy. "Now," says Oprah, "It is the outpouring of intense compassion, the yearning to help strangers across the globe that is truly, I believe, more powerful than any tsunami. Together, if we choose to be, we all can be the ultimate force of nature."
Oprah's Angel Network is contributing to the largest relief effort in human history. Oprah's Angel Network has teamed up with three worldwide relief and development organizations that will be working in the area of Arugam Bay and the town of Pottuvil, Sri Lanka and is donating $1 million to help their efforts!
Oprah's Angel Network funds programs that help people rebuild and strengthen their lives. The Angel Network does not take funds designated for a specific project. Oprah's Angel Network has projects throughout the world focusing on education, women and children. Donations will be used in keeping with the Angel Network's mission where needed most.
Mercy Corps is helping with the immediate needs of the people. Their Cash for Work program pays many of the locals to clean up the area, giving them money to take care of their families.To learn more about this organization, visit MercyCorps.org.
Free The Children will build and furnish a vocational training center for young people, providing skilled workers to the Arugam Bay/Pottuvil area, teaching them how to support their families.
