As the co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington tackles big issues with passion and honesty. She joins Dr. Oz to talk about her book Right Is Wrong and about what she believes are the most pressing problems in America today.
Although Arianna was for many years associated with the right, she doesn't agree with the Republican Party's current values. "What has happened is [that] what I call the 'lunatic fringe' of the right has somehow hijacked both the Republican Party and the country," she says. "It's time to take our country and our debate back and stop seeing everything through this obsolete lens."
Arianna believes America is dealing with both foreign and domestic policy disasters under the current administration. The Iraq war is a huge problem because of its cost, its effect on America's standing in the world and its drain on America's military resources, she says. Here at home, millions of Americans don't have health insurance, and even major corporations are having a hard time competing internationally because of the cost of insuring employees, she says.
With so many problems facing the country, the number of Americans who believe things are on the wrong track is higher than ever, Arianna says. Because of that longing for change, she believes it's very possible that with a fundamental shift in the White House, the next president will be able to create change. "We need someone who, on the central issues—war, healthcare, torture, global warming—looks at the facts and reaches clear conclusions," she says.
