Cops-N-Kids Reading Program Update
While on patrol, Officer Julia Burney saw that most of the children in the neighborhood had no books to read so she started a reading program from her squad car!

An Overwhelming Response Miracles started happening the day a police call led Officer Julia Burney to 10,000 books. After winning the Use Your Life Award, the entire community of Racine, WI came out of the woodwork to pitch in and help construct a new Reading Center for the Cops-N-Kids Reading Program. A Community's Sense of Purpose Local union members — painters, carpenters, electricians, and tradesmen — volunteered their time and supplies to refurbish an old building. Julia says, "With every paint stroke, with every nail they drive in, they are part of changing the life of a child." Special Surprises from Secret Angels! We brought Julia to Chicago so some angels could create a major surprise for Julia. Two artists from "Brush of Class," Kristen and Zoey, drove from Buffalo, NY to Wisconsin to create a mural of children's books characters. Ethan Allen sent a team of decorators and a truckload of furniture to completely decorate and accessorize four rooms including the reading room, the reception area and a tutoring room! Ethan Allen supplied every detail from teddy bears down to a basket of cozy socks. Sears Home Life also created a beautiful computer lab and donated 12 brand new computers!
