The Oprah Winfrey Show
Safety on Summer Vacation

If you're planning a family vacation this summer, safety expert Bob Stuber offers tips on how to keep your child as safe as possible - even when they're not with you.

Kids should know the name and phone number of the hotel where you're staying, as well as your rental car and airline information. You can put a card with this information in their backpack or pocket.
You should know what your child is wearing at all times.
Have meeting times with your children every half-hour.
Children should carry a whistle — it attracts more attention than yelling.
Children should carry a current family photo — and parents should do the same.
Children should carry a card with emergency numbers (neighbor's or parents' friends' numbers).
Carry children's fingerprints and ID information.
