Safety at Summer Camps

Bob Stuber Safety expert Bob Stuber gives advice to parents sending their child to summer camp. Whether it's day camp or band camp, he's got everything you need to know!

Questions to ask before sending your child off:
What are the requirements for becoming a counselor?
Does the camp conduct background checks on counselors?
Do the counselors have special training in working with kids?
How close is the nearest hospital? It should be within a half-hours distance.
What kind of medical staff does the camp have? It should be a registered nurse or paramedic, not just someone who's had a couple first aid courses.
What is the policy on bullying? Do they send them home? Do they call the bully's parents? Do they call you? Do the counselors know how to deal with bullying?
What is the phone policy?
How hard is it to get in touch with your child? Can you call them any time of the day?
