Uniting Women of the World
Abolishing Sexual Slavery On our recent show with Madeleine Albright, a new form of slavery was exposed the sexual trafficking of women. Millions of women every year are being sold into sexual slavery all around the world against their will. After that show, viewers raised more than $10,000 for the International Justice Mission, which raids brothels and rescues women and girls as young as 7 from forced prostitution. You too can support this organization by logging on to the International Justice Mission's Web site at www.IJM.org.
Cindy, a wife and mother from Virginia, wanted to help stop this atrocity.
Cindy, who previously worked in law enforcement for 14 years, traveled to
Bombay, India, to help raid several brothels, where she witnessed horrible
living conditions and heartbreaking treatment.
"I saw women that were treated like cattle. In the brothels, they would bring them out one by one and line them up ... like they were animals... This experience changed me as a woman and the way I want to live my own life." Cindy Connecting Women Around the World Since the organization Women for Women International appeared on the show Sanctioned Violence Against Women, they have been able to help 7,000 women worldwide. The organization matches up women with women refugees from around the world. Each sponsor sends her match sister $25 a month, plus a letter. Many women say they look forward to the letters more than the money.
After seeing that show, Roxanne was inspired to completely change her life. She quit
her corporate job and moved across the country for a position with the organization,
taking a 60 percent pay decrease.
"For me, when it came down to being able to make a wonderful contribution and do something really positive, there was no way I was going to pass up this opportunity." If a man feels rejected in any way, he may seek revenge by throwing acid on a woman's face and body. Healing the Children of Florida is an organization that matches acid attack victims with host families in the United States. After seeing the story of Nurjahan, a young acid attack victim, Betty Henderson and her husband knew they had to do something. They contacted Healing the Children and learned that Nurjahan's host family lived in a city far from her doctors. Nurjahan had to fly to this city each time she had surgery. Betty and her family happened to live in the same city and invited her to live with them. Nurjahan now lives with the Hendersons and continues to make progress in her recovery. "When you look at her, you don't see the scars, but a brilliant light shining in her eyes and smile." Nurjahan's host mother, Betty If you live in Florida or Georgia and would like to help, visit www.htcfl.org. If you live outside of Florida or Georgia and would like to get involved, visit www.healingthechildren.org.
