The Oprah Winfrey Show
Chinese Orphans

Matt Dalio was 11 years old when he first visited China and fell in love with the culture. When he returned to China two years ago, at age 16, he was haunted by what he saw on visits to local orphanages. Matt found children living with deformities and disabilities in horrible living conditions, mostly malnourished and starved for love.

"I wanted to find a way to bring help and bring my two worlds together and help the Chinese children—the people that I love." — Matt

A Push for Change
Matt made it his mission to help the children. He started ChinaCare, an organization that gives financial support to orphanages and helps hard to place children find loving homes in China and the United States. In just two years, Matt's program has helped 50 children leave the orphanage and find loving homes.

Matt approached American doctors about going to China to donate surgeries for children with special needs—so far, 15 children are scheduled to receive life-changing surgery. The surgeons will also teach Chinese doctors how to continue to perform similar surgeries on their own.

Matt says that with only 75,000 dollars, he would be able to convert an old hotel into a modern orphanage.

How You Can Help
ChinaCare Foundation
www.chinacare.org
The ChinaCare Foundation's mission is to help Chinese orphans find homes. The foundation provides a special level of support to handicapped orphans and families that adopt them. In addition to providing financial assistance, you can donate time, goods or facilities. For example, the organization welcomes doctors who are capable of helping children with special needs and airlines to provide tickets to bring the children to their new homes.
