Q: Damone, my face is two different shades. I do not know how to apply makeup at all. Is there any way that you can give me some advice?

Evelyn Boone, age 40, Long island, Virginia

A: Evelyn, most skin tones tend to vary in shades. The trick is to even everything out and make it appear as though you are not wearing any makeup at all. To even out your skin tone, you want to first prep the skin by exfoliating dead skin cells away and applying moisturizer. Next, apply foundation only on areas that need it most: Usually along the nose, cheeks and chin. Apply a creamy concealer under the eyes and on any blemishes. Lastly, set with a loose powder. These simple steps will help you bring your best face forward.

Q: Damone, I have combo skin. My T-zone is shiny and my nose breaks out pretty easily, while the rest of my face is dry. What can I use for my entire face that is not costly?

Kimberly, North Carolina

A: Kimberly, I have found in my many years as a makeup artist that most people tend to have combination skin. Some of us are more oily or dry than others, but most have areas of the face that can be either. One of my favorite products is by FACE. It is the Hydrating Balancing Cream for combination skin. It hydrates, limits excess sebum and helps prevent new imperfections with the regulating action of zinc for the low retail price of $9.

Q: Damone, I am a senior in high school and I am ready for a change in my hair. I want to start transitioning from relaxed hair to natural. I just want to know are there any tips or advice that you can give me about going natural?

Kiara, age 17, Gautier, Mississippi

A: Kiara, how exciting that you are about to begin a completely new chapter in your journey of life. The transition from relaxed hair to natural is a patient one. The simplest way is to cut off the permed hair and work with a short style as you grow the hair back out. If you are going to maintain your length while transitioning, remember the hair is very fragile during this time. Keep it well moisturized, trim the ends regularly as the hair continues to grow and sleep in a silk scarf to prevent friction on your pillow as you maintain moisture in your hair.
