Dolce and Gabbana Fragrance Anthology

Five New Scents
Dolce & Gabbana calls its Fragrance Anthology a collection of five olfactory tarot cards ($65 each; department stores). We spent some time with the deck and divined this important news about your future: It's going to smell spectacular.

From left to right:
  • 1 Le Bateleur (The Magician) will remind you of the rich, sweet scent of hot vapor coming off an angel food cake
  • 3 L'Impératrice (The Empress) has the delicate smell of a pink rose candy, but gets richer and more mellow as you wear it
  • 6 L'Amoureux (The Lovers) conjures a lemon mousse, both tart and sweet
  • 10 La Roue de la Fortune (The Wheel of Fortune) smells like a ripe, sweet plum torte
  • 18 La Lune (The Moon), most elegant of all, is mysterious and pale, the smell of a garden in the cool dark, of slightly chilled flowers, asleep. It's a perfect scent for fall.

Benefit Laugh With Me Lee, A Scent By Issey Miyake, American Beauty Beloved Red Rose, Lola Marc Jacobs

Look What We Found!
From left to right:

  • On a chilly, gray fall morning, you can slip into a hot summer day with Benefit Laugh With Me Lee Lee ($36; Sephora.com), a sunny, citrus-drenched scent of sugared lemonade and blackberry pie (there is the slightest hint of flaky crust).
  • A Scent by Issey Miyake ($89; department stores) is like clean, clear air blown over fields of snow and ice, carrying the scent of frozen crystals and a fresh balsam tree.
  • American Beauty Beloved Red Rose ($40; Kohls.com) invokes a breeze that has picked up the green notes of grassy meadows and passed through a hedge of young roses, just opening in May.
  • Lola Marc Jacobs ($65; Bloomingdales.com) explodes with vivid fruit. Each one seems lit up. Wearing Lola is like walking through Times Square and smelling the thousands of purple, orange, and lemon gas-plasma lights.

L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss

Lip Service
This September, when you buy limited edition L'Oréal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss in Color of Hope ($10; drugstores)—a warm mauve you'll especially love for its sheerness and shine, and for the way it stays on even after you drink a bottle of water—$1 will go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. What a smart way to make an impact. — Kate Sandoval
Magnet Travel Brush

Bright Idea!
Because of my own lack of a certain kind of imagination, I've always been impressed by people who invent things, big or small, that make our lives easier. Sadly, if it were left up to me, there'd never be anything like, say, U-Haul, for example; we'd still be dragging all our stuff around behind us on giant palm leaves.

Makeup artist Sonia Kashuk, on the other hand, has consistently delivered little innovations that have made our beauty burden easier to carry. (She's the one who came up with a mascara that has an eyeliner on the other end.) "I'm always thinking about portability and simplicity," she says. She recently stopped by the O office to show us her very smart Magnet Travel Brush Set ($17; Target.com), which contains one slender, silver multipurpose handle along with seven full-size interchangeable magnetic brush heads, including blush, eyeshadow, lash/brow, and lip brushes. The heads fit securely onto the handle with a satisfying magnetic snap; the whole thing comes in a soft silver case you could easily fit into a pocket (or a compact makeup bag). No U-Haul necessary. — Valerie Monroe
Shu Uemure Brightening Cleansing Oil; Q tips Vanity Pack

Bathing Beauties
Spruce up your bathroom and your complexion at the same time? Actually, you can: Set out this lilac-tinted bottle of Shu Uemura Brightening Cleansing Oil ($75; ShuUemura-USA.com), and use the oil morning and night. The cult-favorite cleanser soothes skin with sakura leaf extract as it removes even waterproof makeup. The bottle is part of the new Tokyo Kamon Girls collection, designed by Japanese manga artist Moyoco Anno. While you're at it, go ahead and replace your economy-size Q-tips box with this cleverly designed drawer (Q-tips Cotton Swabs Vanity Pack, $3.50; drugstores); choose from purple, orange, blue, and yellow. Now your bathroom counter can be as dazzling as you are. — Kate Sandoval
Sula Paint and Peel, OPI matte, Essie Matte About You nail polish

Manicure Madness
A few (slightly odd) nail polish innovations recently landed on our desks. The first, Sula Paint & Peel (Crush; far right; and Blush; second from right; $9; SulaBeauty.com ), is just right for a wild night out—paint on two deep plum coats of Crush in the evening and then peel off the water-based formula before work the next morning, no polish remover needed. The second is OPI's new matte collection (La Paz-itively Hot, far left; $8.50 each; OPI.com), which offers six of its best-selling shades in a no-shine finish. We found Shrek-like Gargantuan Green Grape and whiteout Alpine Snow too weird for our taste, but darker shades, like You Don't Know Jacques! matte brown (second from left), have an almost classic look—an interesting diversion from the glossy berry shades you typically see in fall. If you want to mattify the polish shades you already own, Essie's new Matte About You Matte Finisher ($10; Essie.com), a clear topcoat, instantly deglosses any color. — Kate Sandoval
