Tulip Print Dress
Here's a look at Marc Jacobs's Spring 2006 collection from his namesake line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. This edgy clothing collection is Marc's more affordable line that showcases his personal style. The first look is a cotton tulip-print wrap-dress, worn over black leggings and paired with a matching elbow-length-sleeve jacket and military hat. With a nod back to his early grunge days, Marc favors lots of layers for these ready-to-wear fashions. "This line is put together in a kind of street-style way," says Marc.
Georgette Tube Top
Layers of silk georgette flow from this stretch tube top, worn over leggings and paired with a shrunken cardigan. The dancer-inspired look is finished with slick patent leather and rubber sandals, one of Marc's favorite shoes for spring.
Black and Brown Chic
Another chic look: a black, stretch bodysuit and brown zip jeans, shown with one of the Marc by Marc Jacobs bags, the Stam. "Love the big chain and the zippers," says Marc. "The sort of hardware that make it punk…a little 'punky.'"
White Canvas Dress
This white textured canvas dress is accessorized with a chunky, geometric Plexiglas, unchained necklace and again, Marc's patent and rubber sandals. "I always say a dress is the best thing anybody can buy because it's one piece," Marc says. "You put it on, and you're out!"
Jersey Color-Block Dress
This jersey color-block dress has a convertible blue sash around the middle that can be wrapped in multiple ways. "It's a dress that you can sort of play with and style more, and that's something we also encourage," says Marc. "I love when women make outfits their own as opposed to just following the dictate of fashion designers."
Awning-Print Sundress
This romantic sundress says "summer"! Marc's take on this perennial classic features a fitted bodice, full skirt and awning-print stripe. He points out that the bows were purposefully left untied. "It's kind of taking the 'priss' out of the 'prissy,'" says Marc.
Bias-Cut Blouse and Skirt
Here are some more spring 2006 looks from Marc's primary ready-to-wear line, the Marc Jacobs Collection. Marc pairs a bias-cut duchesse satin blouse with a metallic-thread embroidered skirt. "I like naivete," says Marc of his uncomplicated spring styles. "I like the home sewing patterns…I like the sort of simplicity of clothes and the fabrics."
Olive Raincoat
Marc says a Balenciaga kimono-shape lends inspiration to this ultra-glossy olive raincoat with elbow-length sleeves. Pair it with Marc's pleated stretch linen and silk skirt.
Stretch Silk Slip Dresses
Soft and breezy, Marc offers these versatile stretch silk and polyester slip dresses in multiple colors suitable for layering.
Sweatshirt Cocktail Dress
This off-the-shoulder cocktail dress was inspired by the casualness of a sweatshirt. The shirting is made from French tweed woven with silver threads; the ribbing is made of silk organza.
Gold Lame Slip Dress
This gold lame and organza slip dress, re-embroidered with tiny crystal beads, slips on with ease on account of its elastic waist. "I love the idea of easiness and 'T-shirtiness' and casualness," Marc says. "And the fabric just drapes and moves beautifully."
Sequined Dress
A crinkled organza dress with layers of organza, chiffon and tulle is re-embroidered with small star-shaped silver sequins.
Ribbon Tiered Dress
Swathes of pale gray silver ribbon and silver lame tiers create this stunning formal dress.
