Fall's Best Beauty Products
Our favorite new mineral makeup
Mineral Makeup Moves Beyond Beige
Just when we swore we'd seen it all, a fresh crop of utterly ingenious beauty products hit our desks. Case in point: these incredibly vivid eyeshadows. Use a skinny brush to draw one color along your lashline, or swirl a finger (or brush) over the whole compact to swipe on a shimmery, slightly psychedelic wash.

Scents to take on the go
One Scent, Four Ways
The thumb-size rollerballs in this soft leather pouch are variations on one core scent—each appropriate for a different time of day. Our favorite: Madagascar Orchid, an intoxicating mix of clove, tuberose, and wood.

Lip gloss that freshens your breath
A Fresh Take on Gloss
It's not the first gloss ever spiked with minty flavor, but CoverGirl Wetslicks AmazeMint packs the most impressive breath-freshening punch you'll be dabbing on your lips this season. It uses the same peppermint oil that's in Crest toothpaste; and three shades—Plum Crazy, Un-Wined, and Toast-ed—have blue undertones to make teeth look whiter.

Warming bath mitts
A Breakthrough in At-Home Spa Pampering
Pour room-temperature water inside these disposable mitts and booties, and they turn toasty warm (they're lined with a mineral-and-salt solution that generates heat when it absorbs water). Slather on your favorite moisturizer, slip into them, and in 10 minutes you'll have silky hands and feet—without the price tag of a salon mani-pedi.

Tiny new eyeliners
Eyeliners Get Smaller, Work Better
When liquid liners were transformed into felt-tip markers, we thought it was the pinnacle of liner innovation. Now, the markers have been shrunk into chubby pens that make it even easier to get a smooth line. Try Prestige Hi Definition Fluid Eyeliner (shown here), Avon Perfectly Portable Liquid Liner, or CoverGirl LineExact.

Soothing serum for your eyes
Skincare Classic Gets Brilliant Makeover
Break open one of these capsules—an update on Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Eyes Time Complex—for the perfect dose of serum for the eye area. Because this new formulation contains more essential fatty acids, it's even better at locking in line-plumping moisture and preventing puff-inducing irritation.

Hair product with a real boost
A Major Boost for Fine, Flat Hair
John Frieda says this volumizing shampoo contains "patented fruit acid technology." This means nothing to us, so we asked two volume-challenged friends to test it out. One reported an unsolicited "your hair looks fabulous!" from a colleague; the other said: "My hair feels young again!"

The hottest new nail color
The Polish Color of the Season
Chanel nail polishes have been known to inspire eBay bidding wars (remember Black Satin?). We predict that Gold Fiction, a glittery honey hue that flatters every skin tone, will be no exception. For a more affordable precious metal, try Creative Nail Design polish in Crowned.

New fall fragrances
Fall Fragrance: What's Old Is New Again
This season, what's most exciting at the perfume counter is the allure of retro fragrances. Givenchy relaunched two of its 1950s scents: Le De (from the "de" in Hubert de Givenchy) smells of sunlight on hayfields and the textured floral of lilies of the valley; L'Interdit is a marvelous rose and jasmine blend with a depth unparalleled by many newer scents. Others worth revisiting (or meeting for the first time) are Clinique Aromatics Elixir (born: 1971), Chanel No. 22 (1922), and Guerlain Mitsouko (1919). They are all imbued with an ingredient that's impossible to innovate: the glamour of times past.
From left: Guerlain Mitsouko, $107,; Chanel N°22, $190, Chanel stores; Clinique Aromatics Elixir, $50, department stores; Givenchy L'Interdit and Le De, $85 each,

A slide-up button lets you open, apply, and close this lipstick with one hand tied behind your back (or holding a cell phone, squirming toddler, scepter...). Just as noteworthy: the luminous color.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 40 sunscreen
A Skin-Saving Sunscreen Upgrade
When the FDA finally approved Mexoryl, one of the best UVA filters around, our joy was tempered by the fact that it was available only up to SPF 20. We're thrilled to report that you can now get it in SPF 40; this formula also contains both titanium dioxide and avobenzone, two other highly effective UVA blockers.
