Fall Fragrance: What's Old Is New Again

This season, what's most exciting at the perfume counter is the allure of retro fragrances. Givenchy relaunched two of its 1950s scents: Le De (from the "de" in Hubert de Givenchy) smells of sunlight on hayfields and the textured floral of lilies of the valley; L'Interdit is a marvelous rose and jasmine blend with a depth unparalleled by many newer scents. Others worth revisiting (or meeting for the first time) are Clinique Aromatics Elixir (born: 1971), Chanel No. 22 (1922), and Guerlain Mitsouko (1919). They are all imbued with an ingredient that's impossible to innovate: the glamour of times past.
