Makeup artist Damone Roberts may be known as "The Eyebrow King," but we think of him more as a beauty therapist. He's answering your most-asked beauty questions with confidence-boosting solutions that won't break your beauty budget. Ask Damone your question.
Dear Damone, I am what one would call a beauty junkie. I read every beauty magazine from cover to cover and have tried every beauty product known to woman. However, as of late, I have become very frustrated about beauty myths. Everyone seems to have different opinions about what really works. I have followed your career for years and would like to know which are legit and which are old wives' tales? Any light you can shed on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

Dearest Sara, I agree that there is a lot of information floating around out there that has no validity to back it up. I used my experience as a top makeup artist, while also doing some serious research, to find out once and for all what has been proven versus what has been made up. I dissected 10 major beauty myths, and I think you're going to be surprised by some of the answers!

Myth: Tweezing is better than wax for eyebrows. This makes the skin around the eyes less likely to sag.

Fact:
False! Unfortunately, if the skin around your eyes is going to sag, there is not much one can do to alter it that does not involve cosmetic surgery. If this were true, then the tweezing (which involves constant pulling) would actually loosen the skin more than the wax, which is one quick pulling motion.

Myth: Natural products are better for your skin than artificial ones.

Fact: False! Some natural skin products, such as cleansers and moisturizers actually work really well. However, when it comes to results, nothing works better than retinol and glycolic acids.

Myth: Misting your face with water during a long flight is a good way to moisturize.

Fact: False! Misting your face with water actually dries out your skin after the water evaporates. Find a spritzer that contains glycerin or aloe vera to lock in the moisture.

Myth: Waxing the hair off my lip will make it grow back thicker.

Fact: False! Hair that has not been cut grows to a point. It is widest at the base and most narrow at the tip. When you shave or wax, the base grows out, which can make it appear that the hair is thicker. The truth of the matter is it never grows back heavier than it was in the first place.

Myth: Chocolate causes acne.

Fact: False! Hormones, overactive oil glands, heredity and dead skin cells that lodge in skin pores are what cause acne. A poor diet, however, can exacerbate skin conditions.
