Q: Is anybody out there still making two- or three-inch heels? All I see are superthin stilettos that I can't walk in for more than a block.
A: Blame fashion editors (I plead guilty): We like the way very high heels seem to elongate models' legs, so that's what you see in magazines. On TV, Sex and the City took shoes to new heights, and its influence endures. But in the real world, moderate heels are available and attractive. All the most stylish lines (Via Spiga, Etienne Aigner, Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohl's, even Carrie's beloved Manolo Blahnik) have them in stock (though you may have to ask). Two or three inches is enough to reap the advantages of heels—shapelier-looking calves, more pulled-up posture—while allowing you to remain fully mobile.
