Pattern Boldness
A colorful lace dress pairs smartly with a brightly striped blazer. "I love mixing blue and orange, lace and stripes," says former model King, 32. "You can be very daring in your choices with a modern '20s look."

Night and Day
Chunky jewelry and spectator brogues anchor floaty organza and silk. King, who started modeling at 14, says she learned about fashion from the greatest of teachers: the couture designers—Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld—who dressed her for the runway. "These amazing people taught me about fit and proportion."

Tip from O Creative Director Adam Glassman: Mix menswear-inspired pieces with feminine glamour—think cocktail rings, shoulder-baring tops—for the most modern look.

Mix Master
A graphic Art Deco–print skirt is paired with a cotton tunic and bright orange cardigan. Printed platform wedges (Call It Spring) add an unexpected (and up-to-the-minute) touch. "What I love about this outfit," says King, "is that it takes the silhouettes of the '20s and does them in fabrics, colors, and patterns that you can only have now."

Adam Says: Consider long-strand necklaces, especially if you have a larger bust—they visually elongate your torso.

Piece Makers
Signature '20s pieces—a feather boa, a slouchy top—are updated in an aqua and orange color scheme and Art Deco–meets-tribal accessories. A Jazz Age wavy bob and dramatic eyes complete the look. "The hair and makeup let you become a character, a different person in a beautiful way," says King.

Adam Says: This is not the time to go natural. Dark eyes, bright lips, and short hair with finger waves all look terrific with '20s fashion.

Stylish Idea: Don't have short hair? Pull it back into a sleek ponytail or top with a cloche.

Pretty Pleats
"This dress is very straight but has pleating at the bottom, which adds movement," says King, who credits her seamstress mother ("I grew up sleeping next to the sewing machine") with encouraging her to develop her personal style.

Adam Says: In the '20s, women's clothes became less restrictive and more comfortable. Put away the pants and pencil skirts for the moment, and indulge in long dresses that skim the body.

Stylish Idea: T-strap styles are an easy way to add a '20s vibe to any outfit.

Pile It On
A striped dress gets the more-is-more treatment with a lace top and loads of jewelry. "I like to layer things you wouldn't normally think to combine," says King. "It can all come together like a piece of art."

Adam Says: Embrace a bright color palette—it's fresher than the expected Gatsby-era nudes and champagnes.

Boy Meets Twirl
A flirty chartreuse dress gets a bit of menswear-inspired structure when topped with a printed short-sleeved blazer. "I love the combination of a chunky men's jacket over lighter fabrics," says King. "The softness and femininity of the dress and scarf let you layer without looking bulky."

Adam Says: This era ushered in sleeveless styles, so if you like your arms, show them off. Blazers and kimono-sleeve tops offer chic coverage if you need it.

Stylish Idea: Try vintage sporty looks, like this tennis-dress inspired style
