Write a Letter to a U.S. Military Hero
I know what it is like to be far away from your friends and family and feel homesick. But I can't imagine for a long, extended period of time and with limited access to communicating with my loved ones. I have so much respect for the men and women who sacrifice to protect and serve our country; it truly is a commendable and honorable act. Simple things that we perhaps overlook because of all the technology we have around us on a daily basis. Written mail can mean so much to soldiers who are far away in a foreign country risking their lives. I personally love the art of letter writing and feel it is a dying form of expression. So why not revive it??? Pen a letter to a person in the military—it can be a stranger or a loved one. Just a note to let them know they are appreciated and supported. Keep the words light, and include funny anecdotes or inspirational quotes that have helped you stay positive at one time or another. There are websites that can give you information for writing a letter to a soldier, such as www.military-space.org and www.troopssupport.com, which offers many ways to cheer and care for our soldiers in combat. If you want to go the extra mile, include some stamps and your e-mail address. Regardless of your political views on war, these people are putting their lives on the line to protect our freedom, a concept that can be so easily taken for granted and is a blessing that I hope we all always have in our lifetime. I salute the troops!!! God bless America. Keisha
