1. "Nothing has ever been achieved by the person who says, 'It can't be done.'"
The words are Eleanor Roosevelt's, but I first heard them quoted by radiologist Margaret Cuomo at a recent luncheon for her new book, A World Without Cancer.
Cuomo believes that the title of her book could be a reality someday. I sure hope so.

2. My Snacks Usually Involve Icing...
but a recent trip to Canyon Ranch in Massachusetts changed that. After a four-mile hike with my daughter and sisters along the Appalachian Trail, the staff at the ranch gave us their special Pumpkin Crunch with some string cheese. I'm not sure if it was the salty pumpkin seeds or the sweet cranberries, but I was hooked and wanted to share the recipe.

3. Bradley Cooper is Dreamy Even as a Troubled Soul...
in the movie Silver Linings Playbook, in theaters November 21. His character, Pat, has just been released from a state institution when he returns home to live with his off-kilter parents, played by Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver. Add to that his delusional attempts to get back together with his wife while forming a friendship with the eccentric Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) and you've got a world of dysfunction. At times I didn't know whether to laugh or cry—but I do know that I love the smokin' hot and oh-so-talented Cooper, and I looooved this movie!

4. What Happens When the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny Join Forces?
You get a great adventure from DreamWorks, in the animated movie Rise of the Guardians. Everyone has a favorite memory about those childhood figures (my son, Will, might remember realizing that Santa and Mommy had the same handwriting), but in the film you get to see a different side of them—and it's not all sunshine and lollipops. In the end, it's a great story for adults and children, with some good life lessons for all of us.
5. My First Memory of the Rolling Stones...
is listening to "Satisfaction" at a sixth-grade slumber party at a friend's house in Ankara, Turkey, where my family was living at the time. In the middle of our sleepover, my friend's dad stopped the record when he heard the words girlie action! Decades later, as the band celebrate their 50th anniversary, my guess is they've gotten plenty of girlie action. Their new greatest hits collection, Grrr!, could be the perfect gift for the family member who "moves like Jagger" in your house.
6. I Thought Zara Was Too Young and Trendy...
to be my type of store—but boy, was I wrong! I recently found this green number for just $80, and it's become a staple. And even more good news: It works for women of all ages. Coincidentally, Rebecca Jarvis, my 31-year-old colleague at CBS, wore the exact same dress on the same day I did. And no, we didn't have a hair-pulling catfight—instead, we both agreed it's a keeper!
