James, author of The Celestine Prophesy: An Adventure, and Salle, who produces meditation tapes, say that while Global Prayer Project started small in late 2006, it and has exploded in recent months. "A lot of people around the world wanted to make a difference and wanted to do something regularly that could reach out and touch the world and make things better," James says. Members of the group often pray for the crisis in Darfur and the war in Iraq. While the members hope to make a difference in the world through the power of prayer, James says they also take political action by writing letters to Congress.
Marianne says that prayer is the medium of miracles. She says coming together as a group and praying with people from around the world is bound to cause powerful change. "When we pray about something, we are actually saying, 'I am willing to be changed, I am willing to see this differently, I am willing for my mind to be changed, I am willing for my heart to be changed,'" she says. "Only if our heart is changed in relation to a situation, do we have the power to affect or change anybody else's heart."
