At night, that hunk of coral that appears so rocklike during the sunlit hours, rouses to put on a surprising sensational show. If you look really closely you'll see that it's vibrating and metamorphosing, competing for food, and inverting its guts "to digest the crap out of everything [it] can reach"—just very, very slowly. PhD student Daniel Stoupin has stitched together 150,000 close-up images of the beautiful creatures' "Slow Life" into an hypnotic time-lapse video to prove it:
