"They're not [the ones] making you feel not good enough," Dr. Robin says. "The not-good-enough wound already is alive in your heart, in your mind, in your being. What happens is that people show up in our lives and they activate what is already there. They uncover the not-good-enough wound and then we blame them."
Dr. Robin wants to know: Where and why did you start believing that you weren't good enough? Maybe you think you aren't smart enough, athletic enough, thin enough or stylish enough. "What tapes are playing in your head and where did they come from?"
Dr. Robin suggests picking one message that "you're still playing over and over again about not being good enough." Make it a priority to banish that feeling of inadequacy, she says.
"You're going to decide that the not-good-enough wound is not going to be in the driver's seat of your life anymore, and you're going to make the choice to replace it with something that is empowering, that is true and that helps you to live your best life," Dr. Robin says.
