Q: I've just recently read your book (A Course in Miracles), and it has really impacted me. I was enthralled and amazed by the powerful message. I am trying to take what I've learned and really implement it in my day-to-day life. I am having trouble finding a way to mend the broken relationship I have with my brother. I understand your concepts, but my pride is still getting in the way. My brother has made some bad choices and continues to still, but for me it's hard to let go of the past when the present still resembles past issues. I am no one to judge him, but I am finding it hard to get past old wounds when new ones are still forming. How can I look past his not-so-great choices and still remain positive and loving?

— Claudia R., Newark, California

Dear Claudia,

My suggestion to you would be to pray for your brother's happiness for five minutes every morning, for a minimum of 30 days.

I don't know the specifics of your circumstances, but please remember that while spirit always gives the loving answer, sometimes the loving answer is no. If your brother is behaving in ways that would undermine your own well-being or enable his unwise choices, please remember that we can love people and still set healthy boundaries. Sometimes it's easier to love people when there is a healthy distance between us.
