Dr. Robin says the only person who can rescue you is you. "It is your job to know what it is you need to do, so we can rescue ourselves or at least take full responsibility to be a full participant in our own rescue mission," she says.
Just as airplanes have emergency plan pamphlets, come up with your own emergency plan to rescue yourself from personal problems. By preparing for a crisis in a time of peace, Dr. Robin says you are giving yourself the important gift of self-accountability. "It is not the job of someone else to know where the door is, the door of escape, the door of help, the door of rescue," Dr. Robin says. "You have to start paying attention to the instruction manual on the plane and the instruction manual of life."
