There's an old saying that says, "A little goes a long way." Dr. Robin says that you may do something for someone that may seem like a small gesture to you, but it could mean the world to the other person. Perhaps you reach out to a friend, neighbor or acquaintance who might be depressed or down on their luck. "We can't make someone's loved one alive again, we can't give someone their job back when they've been laid off, but what we can do are those little things," she says.
Don't put off being a blessing to someone else, Dr. Robin says. Rather, go out and do the little things that make a big difference. Drop flowers off at someone's door with a handwritten note, make a phone call instead of sending an e-mail, or invite a neighbor over for lunch. "Take the time to make the time to do a little, because it makes a big difference," she says.
