Weekend jeans

Want a new look for less? Just mix a few new accessories with the two wardrobe staples already hanging in your closet—jeans and a black dress. Our fashion dream team—O, The Oprah Magazine creative director Adam Glassman, Elle creative director Joe Zee and celebrity stylist and Harper's Bazaar contributor Mary Alice Stephenson—shows you how.

Adam says anyone can create a chic—and comfortable—weekend look. "Everyone has a great pair of jeans and a white shirt. We gave her a little bit of a longer cardigan," he says.

Add a pop of color with an embellished flat or a thin scarf. "You can dress up any old jean that you have," he says. "The scarf is really a great way—an easy way—to sort of ease into color or pattern."

Evening jeans

Mary Alice takes a pair of modern slim jeans out for a night on the town. "If you don't want to or can't wear the skinny, go for the slim or go for a straight cut," she says. "And the good news out there with denim from Banana Republic, [Ann Taylor] Loft, Gap, is it's all got spandex in it now."

If you've got curves, Mary Alice says ankle boots can balance out your figure. "It really does give a better proportion," she says. "You've just got to try it on and make sure."

Another effortless way to dress up a pair of jeans is to throw an embellished T-shirt under a cashmere sweater or a shrunken jacket. "It's a quick, easy way to add a little glamour under all those classics you already have," she says.

Day-to-evening dress

For the days you need to go from day to evening, Joe says a few accessories can create a glamorous look in just minutes. "We started with the wide corset belt," he says. "Just put that on a simple sweater, [or] you can put it on a dress."

Other accessories to keep in your desk drawer? A statement necklace, a colored shoe and a clutch.

Evening dress

Mary Alice is going straight to evening with this sexy black dress look. "If you don't want to incorporate the biggest trend in fashion, which are ruffles everywhere, you can do it in an accessory," she says. "The ruffle on the shoe is fun."

Mary Alice also gives the black dress an edge with some tough pearls. "Pearls are not so precious anymore. We're seeing pearls mixed with chains, pearls mixed with studs," she says. "Great way to kind of glam up all those little black dresses we have in our closet."
