One Loss, a New Law

Michelle "[We] wanted to do something so that this wouldn't happen to anyone else..." — Michelle

A Heart-Wrenching Day
"Brian was with his caregiver. She had decided to that she needed to go shopping, so she took him along with her two children. It was 82 degrees outside. She made the decision to leave Brian in the car. The windows were not cracked, the doors were locked and the car was turned off."

"I can't tell you how it feels to be sitting in the back of a police car and they're trying to tell you that it's okay. And you know that it's not. You just keep thinking 'Was this little boy in the back of the car saying, "Where is my mommy?"' and Mommy wasn't there." —Michelle

Making a Difference
"All she had to do was get the stroller out, put the boys in the stroller and take them in with her, and my little boy would be here with me today." —William

"Within weeks after Brian's death my whole family wanted to do something so that this wouldn't happen to anybody else. We started talking to our state reps, and we got Brian's Law together."

"Brian's Law carries a class C felony. If someone leaves their child in the car now and they die, there's an automatic charge. After months of working on Brian's Law it finally became a reality one year after Brian's death." —Michelle

A Satisfied Spirit
"In the fall after Brian's death, we found out that we were pregnant. Once the twins were born, I had them and I still kind of had Brian, because I had Brian's Law. So my spirit had been lifted tremendously, you know, and I still, in a sense, had my three children." —Michelle

"We know that Brian's in heaven watching us do what we are doing with Brian's Law. He's just giving us a little thumbs up, you know , 'Go Mom go.' You're doing something for me about what happened, and you're going to be okay." —Michelle
