The Issacson Family
 |
"My spirit is
so moved by these children and their will to survive,
and desire to do the right thing." |
Nina and Scott Isaacson opened their
hearts to children in need, and fulfilled their life
long dream of having a family. With seventeen adopted
children, between the ages of two and sixteen, the
spirit of family in their home is strong!
The Issacson's have children have been abused, neglected,
lived in harsh environments-some have even called
the street their home. Nina and Scott bring each child
into their home and talk openly and honestly about
their past experiences, and about their positive new
futures.
Originally Nina and Scott were worried about adopting
children. They had heard horrible stories of children
not overcoming their pasts, preventing them to communicate
positively with new family members. The Isaacson's
tested the waters by bringing two very troubled girls
into their home. They monitored the children twenty-four
hours a day, and helped them work through their problems.
Although the process was difficult, it was unequivocally
rewarding. Thus, the Isaacson family was born.
Usually the adopted children come from extremely
unstructured environments. Therefore, the Isaacson
household is full of structure. There are rules and
expectations are high. Nina and Scoot teach the children
to be responsible for their own actions. In exchange
for their cooperation, the children receive love and
support, and family that will never give up on them.
Nina
expresses, "that her capacity to love each of her children
increases as each child is added." She feels Scott and
herself have been set on predestined course. Nina also
says, "if she could have given birth, I would have given
birth to these seventeen children." Scott adds, "all
of these children physically do not look like me, but
their smiles are a part of my life. They are my children.
Not just for now, but for eternity."
