First a catchphrase, then a book, He's Just Not That Into You is now a film—and the truth still hurts.
In the back of every dating woman's mind, there's a file one might call The Book of Nevers. Example: On a first date, never order soup or noodles or, egads, noodle soup (curse you, tempura udon!). If the guy never picks up the check or holds a door open, run for the hills. And never forget that if you're always making excuses for your noncommittal or flawed or irritable or emotionally unavailable beau—he's stressed, he's scarred by past relationships, he's oh so very complicated—then maybe (all together now)...He's Just Not That Into You.
What began as a line in a Sex and the City episode became a best-selling book and is now an all-star movie (the cast includes the Jennifers Aniston and Connelly, Scarlett Johansson, Drew Barrymore, and Ben Affleck). But the message remains the same. In the emotional Tilt-A-Whirl of dating, love, and even marriage, it's easy to lose sight of a simple truth: that a worthwhile man likely won't wait for you to make the first move; will forgo sleep and football to be with you; and will be ardent about making you happy, whether it's on the third date or after the third kid. Come to think of it, if you're hankering for a chick flick and you ask really nicely, he might even take a deep breath and come with you.
