People and hearts

Sweetest Day, which takes place the third Saturday in October, has gotten a bad rap over the years as a manufactured holiday. The truth is, the original intent of this day was to bring sweets and gifts to the elderly, orphans and others who are often forgotten during other holidays.

Celebrate the true spirit of Sweetest Day by reminding the special people in your life that they are not forgotten and that they matter to you—that your life is just a little bit sweeter with them in it. This applies to your partner, parents, friends, relatives, co-workers—anyone who enriches your life.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to show your appreciation either. Perhaps e-mail, text or write a handwritten note (remember those?) to someone you care about. Maybe take time to have a heartfelt conversation about what makes that person special.
