Holly and other Hollywood moms helped Christopher write Healthy Child Healthy World with essays highlighting their efforts to give their children healthy food and nontoxic, clean homes. "Food and cleaning are two big areas of potential trouble and potential exposure for chemicals and toxins," Christopher says. "This book is a resource for parents to say, 'How do I clean, how do I keep my home safer, how do I keep my home in a "greener" way?'"
Christopher offers these healthy tips any parent can try to incorporate into daily life:
- Use green, nontoxic cleaners. "Some conventional cleaners are known to have some chemicals and some synthetic ingredients that aren't so healthy for kids," Christopher says. "[Some cleaners] are directly linked to asthma and other ailments in kids."
- Buy whole, organic foods when you can. Try not to give children, especially babies, foods with added sugar, preservatives or items with artificial colors, he says.
- Use glass baby bottles and glass food storage containers. "Over time, [a plastic bottle or container] can become porous and leach out chemicals," Christopher says.
