Recipe for Good Parenting
All parents want to raise their children the best they can. Holly and Rodney talk with Cheryl Saban, author of Recipe for Good Parenting, about how parents can create happy families and teach their children the art of confidence.

Cheryl's Tips for Good Parenting:

  • Listen to your children. Sometimes children just like to talk, and while you may not always be able to follow their chatter, allowing them to share gives them a creative outlet and builds confidence, Cheryl says. If you seem distracted when your children are talking, they may feel as though they're not worth your time.
  • Teach children to give back. The giver benefits as much as—if not more than—the receiver. Teach children to give back to society and others. Their lives will be enormously enhanced when they do, Cheryl says.
  • Let children go through their own challenges. Let children grow, protect them and give them an environment where they can have a personal win, but don't fix everything for them, Cheryl says.
  • Allow your children to be who they want to be. It's normal to want your children to avoid the challenges you may have faced when you were their age, but let them be, Cheryl says. "We have a hard time letting go of our kids and letting them discover their life," she says.
  • Love your spouse. Children learn from example, Cheryl says. Show love and compassion to your spouse, and your children will pick up the habit. "It's wonderful to teach them how to be in a loving relationship," she says.
