The Real Reason Kody Brown and His Wives Moved to Las Vegas

Season 5 Episode 502

In 2010, Oprah interviewed polygamist Kody Brown and his four wives—Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn—stars of TLC's reality series Sister Wives.

The Brown family put on a brave front for that interview, but away from the cameras, they told producers that they were terrified that felony charges of bigamy in Utah would result in Kody and his wives going to prison, leaving 17 children behind. "It was an extremely painful time," Kody says.

Eventually, the Browns decided that their best plan was to leave the state of Utah. "We did not know how aggressive the district attorney would be, so we didn't want him finding out that we were leaving," Kody says.

In the video above, Kody and his wives reveal how this decision affected their children. Plus, find out how the charges against them were resolved in a historic ruling.
