Tiffany and Debbie Gibson: Friends or Frenemies?

In the late '80s, two pop princesses ruled the music charts: Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. They both released their debut albums in 1987, and in the media, these teens were often portrayed as rivals.

Tiffany, who now lives in Nashville, admits that she and Debbie were not friends in the '80s. "When we were touring and everybody was pitting us against each other, we didn't really know each other," she says. "A lot of management and maybe record labels like that rivalry. It keeps a little edge."

Over the years, Tiffany says, she and Debbie became friends and even toured together. "It's nice to see both of us go from teen stars to adult businesswomen who are in control of our lives. And we really both have been very lucky that there hasn't really been darkness," she says. "That just hasn't been our journey."
