Was Michael Sam's Draft Day "Cake Kiss" Staged?

Aired on 12/27/2014 | CC tv-14
After three days of anticipation, Michael Sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted into the National Football League in May 2014. After being picked up by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round, cameras captured Michael celebrating with his longtime boyfriend, Vito Cammisano. After playfully smashing cake in Vito's face, Michael gave him a kiss, igniting discussion with talking heads and across the Internet about the moment being staged.

Michael says it wasn't. In fact, he says, cameras were supposed to be finished filming at that point. "They were only supposed to film the moment I got drafted. That's what people don't understand," he says. "They say it was staged. Well, I'm having fun. I'm in a good mood."

Oprah also asks Michael if the kiss was too much for the country and NFL. Watch Michael's answer in the video above.
