Oprah says one of the defining moments of her life came in the fourth grade—the year she was a student in Mrs. Mary Duncan's class at Wharton Elementary School in Nashville. On February 1, 1989, Oprah's producers surprised her by bringing in Mrs. Duncan as a guest on the show. Oprah started to cry as she read "Welcome, Mary Duncan" from the teleprompter. "Mrs. Duncan had a name! Her name is Mary," a stunned Oprah said.
