Over the years, Oprah would leave the studio to take once-in-a-lifetime journeys to different parts of the world. In 2006, she chose Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel's book Night as an Oprah's Book Club selection. Oprah then traveled to Auschwitz death camp in Poland to learn firsthand from Elie—whom she calls one of her heroes—about how he survived the Holocaust. "This absolutely deserved to be number 10 on our list," TV Guide Magazine editor-in-chief Debra Birnbaum says. "You can't think of another hour of daytime television that was like this."
