Jordan Peele on Why Get Out Is an Important Movie

CC | tv-pg
Jordan Peele, the visionary behind the Oscar®-nominated film Get Out, sits down with Oprah at the world-famous Apollo Theater to talk about the power of storytelling and how he was able to make a groundbreaking statement about the black experience. A large part of it, he says, is having a black protagonist, namely the character of Chris Washington, played by Daniel Kaluuya, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance. "This was a way for, I think, a lot of white people to experience the world through the black perspective," he tells Oprah. "White people watching the movie don't identify with the white people in the movie; they identify with Chris."

Tune in to Part 1 of Oprah at the Apollo on Tuesday, February 27, at 10/9c—only on OWN.
