Gary Zukav and Oprah on Our "Fear-Based Leadership"

CC | tv-14
Are we as Americans more afraid and divided than ever before? In their Super Soul Session, Oprah and spiritual pioneer Gary Zukav discuss the current political climate that is so fueled by fear that it has left the country polarized on an unprecedented scale. "We all know how polarized we are in the world today. It seems like it's just accepted," Oprah says. "Actually, it feels, in some places and parts of our country, [that we've] become splintered."

How do we find common ground in these times when our leaders employ the rhetoric of fear? "We have an administration which is encouraging hate crimes, which is encouraging division, which is encouraging fear," Gary says.

"We're living in a world of fear-based leadership, which is only going to lead to more fear and more fear and create more fear unless we the people can authentically align with ourselves," Oprah says, leading an audience member to spontaneously erupt, "Oprah for President!"

After a round of applause and a polite "No, thank you" from Oprah, Gary suggests that we need to stop pointing fingers at our politicians and instead play a proactive role in solving the problems in this society. "The only way to change it is to contribute something new to it," he says. "That is authentic power, that is love. If you hate those who hate, you step into the darkness with them. If you have no compassion for those who have no compassion, what's the difference between you and them? So, the only way to change the world is to change yourself."

Here, Oprah and Gary discuss how we can all move toward understanding and change.

Super Soul Sessions will be available to view on the Watch OWN app and on WatchOWN.tv next month.
