Season 8 Episode 806
CC | tv-pg
"How are you?" It's a simple question many people ask and answer on a daily basis, but when the person being asked has experienced a personal hardship, the question carries extra weight.

In her new book, Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg addresses how people often are unsure of what to say when attempting to comfort those who have experienced loss. She speaks from personal experience, having recently grieved after the sudden death of her husband, Dave Goldberg. Sheryl hopes to use the lessons she learned during her intense period of bereavement to help people undergoing a similarly difficult situation—and to help those looking to lend support.

Here, Sheryl and Oprah discuss the common mistakes many people unknowingly make when comforting those who may be grieving a loss or coping with a personal hardship.
