Steep Your Soul: A Quote that Made Elizabeth Gilbert Want to Marry Her Husband

Season 5 Episode 527
CC | tv-pg
During her journey of self-discovery chronicled in Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert met and fell in love with a Brazilian-born man named Jose Nunes. Less than a year after the memoir became a best-seller, Elizabeth and Jose married. Readers may know about the blossoming of their romance, but what you don't know is how one quote made Elizabeth even more excited to marry her husband.

"My husband has a line that I always quote," she tells Oprah in the above video. "It's not all why I married him, but it's a lot of why I married him is this line. He said, 'A woman's place is in the kitchen...with her feet up, drinking a glass of wine, watching her husband cook her a meal.'"

Elizabeth says this is one of her favorite ways to relax and unwind. Watch as she reflects on how she was fortunate enough to find such a caring partner, and hear why one poet's quote about defending joy is her favorite above all others.
