In moments of grief and loss, it's natural to search for answers to our heartache. Why did this happen? Why me? Why them? What do I do?
Rob Bell, author and former pastor, shares the touching story of a bride who lost her fiance in an accident just before their wedding. Just hours after the tragic news, she asked Bell to stop by her house. She asked him why this terrible accident happened. He had no answers, but told her to remember she was surrounded by people who loved her. Being present and willing to walk with someone, Bell explains, are sometimes all we can offer to those in pain. And while it can't take away all of the heartache or undo the events that have created and caused such grief, it is still enough to help someone survive what may feel like an unsurvivable moment.
As we walk through our lives and are inevitably touched by grief, or know someone touched by grief, Bell reminds us that while there aren't any answers to tragedy, sometimes the greatest comfort you can give is your presence. Solidarity in grief and in pain is the best way to help loved ones move through a terrible loss. Even sitting in silence is an act of support that might be just what a grieving loved one needs. Watch above as he shares his advice for embracing silence and surviving heartache.
