It is no surprise that over time gender roles in the family have been ingrained into our culture and society. Traditionally, we see fathers as logical figures with careers and mothers as a nurturers focused on cultivating connection and empathy. These roles impact almost all of our decisions and, ultimately, the kind of person we grow up to be. Watching the way our parents interact with the world creates deep, profound values and belief systems that we carry into our own lives and ultimately pass on to our children.
However, in order to raise a child that is whole, self aware, confident and content, clinical psychologist and author, Dr. Shefali Tsabary, says mothers and fathers must embrace the characteristics of each other. By providing a well rounded upbringing where both parents equally show qualities of nurturing, logic, drive and connection the child will grow up a more conscious and content individual.
Dr. Shafali specializes in the integration of Eastern philosophy and Western psychology in order to help families implement the concept of conscious parenting to better connect with their children. In her new book,
The Awakened Family, she explores these dynamic relationships between parent and child and explores a new way in parenting, where gender often becomes androgynous and therefore free of gender confinement. This, she says, also creates a generation that is balanced and living as one. Finding ways to embrace positive qualities from the opposite gender is a first step to becoming a more whole and happy individual.
In this video, Dr. Shefali has a special message for parents to help them find more meaningful time with their children, exhibiting the extraordinary power that can come with being a conscious parent. By taking a moment to analyze how parents interact with each other, with friends and family, and how they approach every day choices can ultimately unlock a better future for their kids.
