Editor's note: We were deeply saddened to learn of Elie Wiesel's passing. This is a moment from his May 2006 interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show. OWN will be re-airing Oprah's Super Soul Sunday and Oprah Show interviews with Wiesel on Thursday, July 7, starting at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Elie Wiesel was just 15 years old when he was sent to Auschwitz. Years later, he would write his firsthand account in what has become one of the single most important books of our time, Night. In 2006, this Nobel Peace Prize winner, prolific author, professor, world-renowned humanitarian and Holocaust survivor returned to Auschwitz to meet Oprah and walk those grounds that had been the scene of such unspeakable horror.

"Do you think the grounds speak?" Oprah said. "It carries its own energy here. It has the voices of the dead, do you think?"

"Absolutely." Elie said. "I'm convinced of that, that some voices are still here. I think the souls are here. I think that they listen, they cry, they warn. Look, this is the largest cemetery in recorded history, and what do you see? Nothing."

Watch as Oprah and Elie walk through the 6,700-acre complex and reflect on the lives that were lost in the 20th century's greatest tragedy.
