Kevin Hart Recalls the Hilarious Trash Talk He Endured from Fellow Comedians

Season 6 Episode 601
Aired on 06/10/2017 | CC tv-pg
Kevin Hart has a good sense of humor about a lot of things—particularly himself.

In his early days pursuing comedy, Kevin spent a lot of time sitting in the back of New York comedy clubs watching his mentor, Keith Robinson, perform. Eventually, Kevin began hanging out at the clubs with Keith and other seasoned comics, like Bill Burr and the late Patrice O'Neal, all of whom wasted no time ragging on Kevin for just about everything. They even had a pet name for Kevin: Little Dummy.

"That's what they used to call me," Kevin says with a smile. "They would just trash me. All of them would trash me! ... My skin was so thick. That was the test. That was comedy hazing to see if I had what it took."

Watch as Kevin recounts some of the jokes at his expense and explains how these interactions prepared him to finally take the stage in New York himself.

Tune in to Oprah's Master Class with Kevin Hart on Saturday, June 10, at 10/9c.
