Sara's Blog: Episode 3

Posted: Mon 11/26/2012 11:19 AM
This episode has hands down been the hardest for me to watch so far. Having to relive your life is such a weird phenomenon, but having to recall some of the most painful moments is just gut wrenching. This black out was particularly heart breaking  because it did happen on Mother's Day, meaning that on Mother's Day a wife, mother, sister, brother, and family received a phone call saying their loved one was not coming home. I can't imagine their pain -- I can't, and I will never pretend to. When Dusty told me it happened where he was located, it was a punch in the stomach. It made me realize that it could have been him. It could have been my doorbell ringing.

This episode starts off on such a somber tone. That first blackout was so incredibly hard for me. I had no idea how to feel or how to react. All I knew was that "somebody had lost their somebody" and it broke my heart. (To see a clip of me talking about the blackout check out the deleted scenes.) I was not at the first memorial because Gunner was sick, I was actually at the ER with him all night the night before and was then at a second doctor getting a second opinion (it was a double ear infection). I was able to go to Mrs. Goins after the memorial thanks to a neighbor that came over and watched the boys. Mrs. Goins actually saw how shaken up I was and called me that night to talk. She told me that it never gets easier but your coping mechanisms do get better. Those words are so true and I will never forget them.

Wow! It is incredibly surreal and humbling to see yourself on TV. I have to start by saying thank you to all of the wives out there that we are representing, I hope you feel that we do it well and make you proud. Now, let's jump into it! There is a clip of me getting the boys ready to go jogging, oh my goodness at the winter gear it takes, but as soon as my feet hit the pavement it's all worth it. We ended up running a 6K like this, jogger and all!
