Blair's Blog: Episode 7

When Rynn and the kids are preparing for Casey to come home, I really enjoyed watching them paint the sign to hang on the pedestrian overpass. I know the feeling of anticipation that you feel when you know they're on their way and the birds (not butterflies) that you feel in your gut are pure bliss. I could tell how Rynn felt being there with the boys and MacKenzie, and it put a smile on my face.

Blair's Blog: Episode 8

Episode 8 is one of my favorites. I loved watching all of us together at Otter Lake. It was such a pretty day, (one of the few days of summer). I'm glad Mrs. Goins wanted to have the meeting outside. It is so important to discuss reintegration, not only with your husband when he comes home, but also with your girlfriends.

Watching Episode 8 was bittersweet in many ways. It was such a joy to see how each of the ladies evolve and grow through trials. On the other hand, it brought back the feelings I experienced that day. Approximately 10 minutes before the start of GI Jane Day, I received a call that we had a KIA. I had to put on my "game face" and keep that information to myself. It was difficult because my thoughts were with the loved ones of the fallen soldier.

Episode 6 shows Lindsey and I trying to overcome our fears.

Lindsey is so worried about hosting her battalion coffee, and it turns out to be a huge success for her. I know personally how hard she tried to impress the ladies that attended her function, and you can see for yourself that she cares about the way presents herself and represents her husband. It is a priority for her to uphold the Army traditions that have been set for officer's wives to live by. And, because this is important to Lindsey, as her friend, it is important for me to support her in her efforts.

Episode 7 showcased how the soldiers feel when they have to leave their families after R&R. I notice how they put on their "game face" and become "Mighty Warriors" when it is time to depart. They are torn between a fierce patriotism and caring for their loved ones. I love it when men show their emotions. It shows their strength. It is not a weakness.

As I watched Episode 6 of Married to the Army:  Alaska, I witnessed such incredible demonstrations of fortitude. It was so wonderful to watch how the ladies faced insecurities and difficult situations. Army wives are so strong; they persevere through depression, illnesses, childbirths, and conflicts while maneuvering through deployments. Wow, that is phenomenal!
