Yolanda was born to military parents in Heidelberg, Germany in 1969. She is the younger of two children. As a military brat she traveled to Spain, several installations in Germany, Washington State, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Texas. As a young child, she knew that she wanted to be a teacher and would gather the neighborhood children to play school, where she always had the role of teacher. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics from Kentucky State University. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Mississippi. She excelled academically at both institutions. She currently teaches a range of Mathematics courses online.
Yolanda likes to read self-improvement books, spiritual literature, and romance novels. She also loves to work sudokus and sumoku puzzles. She is the mother of a twenty year-old son, who is a Cow (junior) at the United States Military Academy at West Point. In addition, she enjoys manicuring her lawn.
Yolanda's favorite quote is Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." She believes in the power of positive thoughts and speaking positive words in every situation. She promotes sisterhood amongst women and has ambitions of becoming a motivational speaker.
Yolanda is married to the Brigade Commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) 25th Infantry Division. The brigade consists of 3500 paratroopers. She serves as a mentor to the spouses. When Married To The Army: Alaksa was in production, the unit was approximately half way through a ten-month deployment to Afghanistan. Yolanda has organized several workshops, including one that she hosted titled "Should I Stay or Should I Go: 9 Reasons to Stay," which encouraged the spouses to remain in Alaska during the deployment. She believes in improving oneself through education. Yolanda also organized the Spartan Mid- Tour Celebration to honor the spouses and children of the brigade for their service to the nation and to celebrate completing half of the deployment.
Although she has achieved many professional goals, she feels her most rewarding work is being a mother and wife.
