Inside the Episode with Alicia Bertine

Posted: Sun 08/19/2012 10:00 PM
I’m Alicia Bertine, one of the Lovetown, USA, singles, and this is my take on the show's premiere episode. This is where I get to dish about what really went on behind the scenes and in my head.

This first episode really explains the mission Oprah and her team set out on to accomplish. As I was getting ready for the Love Rally on day one, my best friend, Ramiah, took some video. She asked if I was nervous, and I said, “Not really.” Then, I asked her for her opinion on what boots I should wear, and she told me she wasn’t sure. I said, “I’m meeting Oprah, come on. I’ve gotta look snazzy!” Clearly, I was a little nervous.

The Love Rally—what an awesome event it turned out to be. Seeing Oprah and saying hello was incredible...she knew my name! The feeling that gave me was indescribable. I love what she said to the crowd and her positive message. The way she even came to the Love Rally was also quite fabulous. It’s not every day that the Coast Guard cruises someone into port! She has a warm heart and generous spirit, and I’m excited about what this social experiment can potentially do for Kingsland, Georgia.

Before I went to Love Headquarters for the first time, I felt a little uneasy. I wasn’t quite sure what I had gotten myself into, but I prayed that it would be fun and hopefully teach me something. When I first met the matchmakers, Paul Brunson and Kailen Rosenberg, I was impressed. They know what they’re talking about. Kailen was very sweet, and Paul seemed to enjoy challenging me and my beliefs. I did get a little feisty with him (just my nature). In the end, our discussion was very enlightening. I loved that they challenged me to explore who I really am. That showed me they care about truly helping people become better and find love.

Their biggest challenge? Finding me love.
