The Real Reason Laura Govan Joined the Cast of Basketball Wives L.A.

Season 4 Episode 419
Aired on 05/27/2017 | CC tv-pg
People participate in reality TV shows for any number of reasons—fame, fortune, the unique opportunity to spread their message—but, for Laura Govan, becoming a cast member on Basketball Wives L.A. was driven by one specific thing: anger.

Laura was featured on the show for two years before leaving in 2012. Ever since, she has garnered a reputation for displaying wild, aggressive behavior, both on television and in her tabloid-fueled life with her ex, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas. Laura is now desperate to move beyond her outrageous public persona, which she's hoping Iyanla can help her do. Iyanla begins her work with Laura by asking why she signed up to be on a reality show in the first place.

"I was angry," Laura says. "[With] my life. With my ex. I was angry. I remember just being bitter. I remember I couldn't wait to tell a story that I had sat in this house that was 15,000 square feet, with four babies, by myself. And I couldn't...I couldn't tell nobody. It was like I was drowning. I had everything and I had nothing."

Watch as Iyanla asks Laura why she thinks the story of her brash behavior is still playing out even though she's no longer on the show.

Iyanla's work with Laura airs Saturday, May 27, at 9/8c.
