Amy Devers is an artist, designer, furniture maker, carpenter, lifestyle expert, and television personality. She was born and raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, then zig- zagged across the country to earn three college degrees. First, to New York City for an AAS degree in Fashion Buying and Merchandising from SUNY-Fashion Institute of Technology, then to San Diego where she obtained a BA in Furniture Design from San Diego State University, and finally back to the east coast where she completed her MFA in Furniture Design at the Rhode Island School of Design, earning a RISD Award of Excellence in the process.
On top of her formal education she has picked up a vast amount of work experience as a teacher, fabricator, contractor, and independent designer/builder of furniture and interiors. Fluent in all manner of making things, she is versatile in wood, upholstery, metal, and plastics, among others with a particular
interest in unexpected materials, found objects, sustainability, and interactive sculpture. She has exhibited her work internationally in galleries and museums.
She has also applies her knowledge and expertise in the fields of art, design and DIY to the small screen. Currently she can be seen helping homeowners up their curb-appeal and their property value as the host of A&Eʼs popular landscape make-over show, Fix This Yard. The web series, Urban Eco, has Devers exploring fun and creative ways of living healthier more sustainable lives. On Ovationʼs Designer People, she travels the world to profile the worldʼs leading designers. As the host and designer of the DIY Networkʼs Freeform Furniture, she guided viewers step-by-step through the process of building her original modern furniture designs, and as the host of DIYʼs flagship home improvement show, DIY to the Rescue, she taught homeowners how to properly complete their botched fix-it projects. She has also built a viewer designed log cabin as the host of DIYʼs interactive series, Blog Cabin, and been a carpenter on TLCʼs hit show Trading Spaces.
A regular contributor to lifestyle media, she has written "Hands On," a monthly advice column for ReadyMade magazine, and is now writing "Lifestyled," a monthly advice column for Modern Ink magazine. As an international design reporter she covers design happenings of all kinds for various blogs and media outlets.
Active in the global design community, she travels the world as a speaker and judge of international furniture design competitions, volunteers with the artist driven neighborhood redevelopment initiative, Watts House Project, and is a regular guest critic and lecturer at academic institutions.
In addition to all that, she is currently operating Amy Devers Art/ Design, a design/build studio in Los Angeles, where she lives, and trying to find the time to fix her own house and yard.
