Season 1 Episode 102
Aired on 03/26/2016 | CC tv-pg
At an early age, the Peetes' eldest son, RJ, was diagnosed with autism. Fortunately, Holly and Rodney were able to provide him with the resources he needed to surmount obstacles throughout his childhood. But now that RJ is transitioning into adulthood, he is eager to embrace his independence.

Like most 18-year-olds, he's looking for a job and going out on his own—but when RJ fails to check in with Holly, she begins to fear the worst. While Holly and Rodney want to support RJ's newfound freedom, they're troubled by what could happen if their son encounters a police officer, considering the challenges he faces with social cues and communication.

"Unfortunately, a lot of it has to do with the color of your skin," Rodney explains to RJ. "You have to be extra careful. You do not reach into your pocket, You do not make any sudden movements. Everything you do has to be slow."

An emotionally overwrought Holly drives home this crucial lesson in compliance, hoping it will keep RJ safe in the future as he ventures out on his own.
